KINDRED
- Old Souls @ Heart The Interview by Toni Williams, contributing writer of Blacksonville.com Then, it was Show Time at the Apollo and now American Idol; it was then Ashford & Simpson; it’s now KINDRED! With music artist hitting the stage everywhere it’s been some time since we have had a new husband and wife duo. KINDRED is an exciting married duo offering a new flavor to music regardless of sound, this team is “HOT” and on the scene with a flow you just don’t want to cool down. This unique couple has the “old soul’s heartbeat” that many traditionalists would say is rare to find today. With just hours before KINDRED’S performance at Square One (Event was sponsored by FM 101.5 and promoted by Get Down Productions of Jacksonville, FL) the vibe from Fatin and Aja was not only soul stirring but fun & loving, and it was written all over their face! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> TW: How did you guys meet? Kindred: We met through working together in the business. Aja (Wife) would travel from DC to Phila on business and after 3 months of working together (Husband) Fatin decided to “Holla”. From there it was dating for about 8 months then marriage. TW: How long have you have you been married? Kindred: 6 years. TW: Tell me about your children? Kindred: Our son is four and our daughter is just at two months old. TW: What is it like being a mom & dad in this industry with children? Kindred: It’s much like any working mom and dad. We share the same concerns. We worry and feel guilty about traveling and leaving them, yet we remember its all in an honest day’s work. “We are a working family”. We just keep building for the future when we can spend more time together. Our time at home does balance the time we are traveling. TW: How does your son feel having both Mom & Dad as entertainers? Kindred: Our son looks forward to coming to the studio and seeing what we do; he likes it a lot. But he is like any other 4 year old. When we are traveling and call in to check on him, his focus is more on his games; we get the “call me back later” like any other Mom and Dad. TW: What is it like working together as husband & wife? Kindred: We love it! It does have its ups & downs of course, but it flows for us. We have a unique chemistry with one another especially as it relates to music. Like any couple we have our arguments and of course, at all the wrong times but we are always able to set the issue aside and remain professional until we can come back to it later and talk about it. Being musicians and married is also an advantage that we are always reminded of the love for one another; our struggles and gains. Our music and profession allows us to share common interest and energy as we work toward common goals. TW: You have such a unique music genre of Jazz, Funk, and Soul How difficult is it to express such a mixture of music? Kindred: We are truly old souls at heart when it comes to music. We love all music and all types of musical expressions. We love and are truly blessed in the fact that we are able to express our heart and soul in our style of music weather it be R&B; Hip Hop; Funk or Jazz. TW: How did the title “surrender to love” come about? Kindred: It was actually in a marketing meeting. Once the title hit the table the theme was set and the music fell into place. TW: What songs best do you like on the track? Kindred: Tracks 1-18! It’s actually hard to say just one as each song represents a story of our life. They all have there own individual meaning and special memory. TW: Being that “Far Away” is one of my most favorite of your hits – what inspired that song? Kindred: With actually just 9 months of being married; we became parents and our life simply changed. The song takes us back to where we were while dating and the things we did before even being married and becoming Mommy and Daddy. This song, like the others, is just another expression of our life and we want our audience to be able to relate and see their life through our music. TW: How does it feel to be called the modern day Ashford and Simpson? Kindred: We are truly honored and blessed however; not to say we don’t deserve such a compliment, we just don’t want to misrepresent that honor. Ashford and Simpson are a true legacy in music and we just feel we need to earn such a title than to just jump in and say we are a modern day Ashford & Simpson. “There is much more in the art of making music then just being a married couple that’s blessed to be able to sing.” Kindred is a must have to your music collection. Kindred will truly take you “Far Away”. Stay posted with there new releases; venues and family tree by getting connected to there web site http://www.kindredthefamilysoul.com .
