THE MOVEMENT TOUR- THE MOVEMENT CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC

VOTER PARTICIPATION

In 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002, the Florida Democratic Party

                  Coordinated Campaign executed a massive GOTV program in the

                    African American Community. This effort directly impacted the

                     win by the late Governor Chiles in 1994, President Clinton in 1996

                     and 1998, and despite the election debacle, Al Gore in 2000.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                               As a result of the debacle 2000, AA GOTV programs will have to

                  work to overcome a substantial amount of voter apathy. The AA

                    constituencies that make up the base cannot be expected to vote

                      by simply communicating with them just prior to Election Day.

These constituencies must be organized and they must be

                  assured of their crucial role before November. For this

                    reason we must organize and reach African-American voters

                     in the summer months.                

There is also a lack of enthusiasm and synergy being created by any of the candidates, therefore it is incumbent upon organizations such as THE MOVEMENT CENTRAL FLORIDA to energize and mobilize the AA youth between the ages of 18-35 utilizing non-traditional methods.

By communicating with the youth, through the music/entertainment industry, THE MOVEMENT CENTRAL FLORIDA has proposed a venue for voter education, registration, restoration, mobilization,

                    and empowerment.
