As you may recall when we met I was in
Jacksonville working on potential legal cases involving the Browns Dump
and other contaminated dump and incinerator sites. It appears from
our preliminary investigation that blacks were consigned to living
adjacent to the city incinerator which were apparently all located in
black areas of the city. Neighborhoods for blacks were then build
on top of the dumps where the contaminated incinerator ashes was dumped.
Generations of black Jacksonville citizens have been exposed numerous
toxic metals and other contaminates. This exposure continues
today. The gravest example of this is
Bethune-Cookman Grade
School. The school playground has been fenced in and signs posted
warning of toxic site, but the children are required to go to
school on the site. Three generations of students have been exposed on a
daily basis to high levels of toxins at that school.
Our legal team is working with residents to devise a means to end this
travesty. I am hopeful as we discussed that www.blacksonville.com can be
a valuable resources in helping us disseminate information and educate
the citizens to >the risk posed by these sites and how there families
can be compensated for related health problems and property
damage.
