-Seeks Study Participants-

July, 2001, Jacksonville, Florida -- Jacksonville Community Council Inc. is seeking study participants for its newest study titled Beyond the Talk: Improving Race Relations in Northeast Florida. This United Way funded study will address the issue – How can the Jacksonville community break the cycles of tension, blame, and denial to improve race relations for the benefit of the entire community. Interested volunteers can sign up on line at www.jcci.org or by calling JCCI at (904) 396-3052. The study group meets for six-months generally from October to May.

Too many reports have been filed against the Jacksonville Police Department for unjustified crimes against our youth. Driving While Black (DWB) and police brutality  have become common place on  desktops of the local NAACP and the Human Rights division.  In the next couple of weeks WE will keep chart of these events for public investigation.
As stated by Professor David Harris, Toledo School of Law:  " Few who have spoken to African Americans about these experiences will doubt that they are wounding, embarrassing, and traumatizing to those who endure them.  But...the significance of racial profiling is larger than the sum of individual experiences.  Profiling is an example-both symbol and symptom-of all of the most difficult issues our nation now faces at the crossroads of race and criminal justice."

WE will NOT experience yet another
Brenton Butler - a 16 year old citizen of  Jacksonville falsely accused & brutalized by local police- who was recently acquitted of murder.

Someone has to be held ACCOUNTABLE !
